The Holidays are full of so many fun events. Work parties, festive lunches, dinner dates and everything related to whatever holiday you celebrate. We have a Christmas eve church service and then celebrate the next few days with family usually dressing up (just a little) for Christmas with my in-laws. I always feel the need to arm myself with different outfit options. I love to wear what’s comfortable especially around my children and then incorporate my new Black Friday purchases which are often from Fall so these outfits often lack a certain festive flair. I think you can make any outfit holiday-ready, yes even a white blouse and jeans, with three things: Velvet, Red, and traditional jewelry.

    1 | Velvet

Texture makes a big difference in an outfit. Usually for winter we like to wear knitted sweaters, wool, and faux fur including shearling. Velvet is another great option and is a luxurious texture to add to any outfit. I have two velvet pieces on in this outfit: my hair bow and my shoes. I’ll talk more about the shoes below but this simple hair bow is festive and fun. Hot tip: Check the kid’s sections for some great bows! This one is from the girl’s section at my local grocery store (Joe Fresh).

    2 | Traditional Jewelry

There’s something really festive about traditional jewelry and by this I mean pearls or gold statement earrings. Maybe it’s because it’s what the matriarch’s of our families wear or maybe because it was the trend at the time of the making of our favourite holiday movies. The moms we know and love, Kate from Home Alone and Ellen from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, were wearing dainty and statement gold earrings throughout their holiday disasters. I love traditional with a twist so I plan on wearing my new pearl earrings from Mejuri for the holidays (they have some great designs!) Order by December 21st to get them by Christmas Eve! Hot Tip: Try your local thrift store for good quality and beautiful jewelry! OR borrow from your mom/aunt/grandma’s jewelry box.

    3 | Red

Is there anything more festive than the colour red? Wear it in unexpected ways this holiday season like in your shoes or hair and in luxurious fabrics like velvet and suede. My red velvet shoes make any outfit, even a white blouse and jeans, more festive. Hot Tip: If you can’t find any red accessories you love try red lipstick or nail polish!
