I find basics hard to shop for. It’s much easier for me to shop for the outfit stars- the floral tops, or dresses heaping with ruffles, pleats, bows, etc. With basics I’m overwhelmed by my options and it’s not that fun spending hours shopping for a t-shirt yet I can’t spend my money on something that isn’t great. If you feel the same way you can stop searching because I’ve found an amazing new set of basics.

    | The T-shirt

There doesn’t seem to be much to say about plain white t-shirts but there’s sooo much that goes into a good one. I look for:

    • cotton: something soft and breathable
    • length: something long enough to tuck into high-waisted jeans,
    • fit: roomy/boxy but not sloppy
    • Sleeve: not too long and big and not too tight
    • Any small interesting details

The organic box-cut pocket t-shirt from Everlane* hits all of these points AND it’s organic. The fabric is very soft so it’s a joy to wear. Lately soft clothing has been a real comfort to me so I think this is an important point. There’s nothing that helps me relax more at night than slipping on my super soft nightgown, adding a comfy cardigan and watching a show or chatting with my husband.

The length on this t-shirt is unlike any other I’ve experienced. I’m 5’3″ and I have a normal-ish torso length so usually tops like this are a little too short for me but this one is perfect. I can tuck it into some high-waisted jeans without fabric bunching up. Or I can let it drift loosely (but not sloppily) over a skirt or pants.

    | The Jeans

I have a love/hate relationship with jeans because I love jeans. I’m a jeans girl. I live in them, I don’t wear other kinds of pants often. Yet, I find it a challenge to fit the bottom half of my body. My jean wish list is:

    • Length, it has to be the perfect height to lengthen my leg but also show off my shoe. I recently found someone local who can hem denim well so I can be extra picky.
    • Leg width: straight leg but not too narrow or wide
    • High-waist (somehow it’s hard to get jeans high-waisted enough for me)
    • the perfect medium wash. Not too light because I find light jeans unflattering on my body type but light enough to think, “are those vintage?” I want something classic but trendy.

So with all of these requirements when I find a pair I really like I wear them to death and usually get two pairs. These Cheeky Straight Leg jean from Everlane are my recent favs. I like the leg width which feels modern and classic at the same time.

    | The Bag

When I got this order the bag was the first thing I put to use. It was very pretty and the perfect size for me (there’s a bigger version!) I really like tote bags for their easiness but I need more structure so this square day tote is perfect.

    • The bag stands on it’s own when being put down
    • Big enough for all my and my kid’s mess
    • Fits my laptop easily
    • Inside pocket good for phone, hand sanitizer, keys
    • Durable
    • Easy to wear

This bag ticks all the boxes though I haven’t had a chance to check if it’s really comfortable to wear as I haven’t been out with it (quarantine life!)
