Mr. Larkin is a brand I discovered last year when one of my fav content creators, Brittany Bathgate, wore their short-sleeved Nadine dress (which I recently acquired on sale). I started really loving the brand after I read an interesting and honest interview about the founder and designer, Casey Larkin Blond, about the challenges she faces as an entrepreneur. I really admired her honesty about work/life balance and her insight into indie fashion brands.
I love when I learn more about a brand’s story. Clothing means more to me when I know the inspiration, the history, the designers and people behind who makes the clothing.
The Nadine dress is a recurring style for Mr. Larkin and has come in various fabrics, prints and sleeve lengths. I fell in love with her floral embroidered Nadine dress in the summer but this version was my first dress purchase. This long-sleeved “Chapelle” version was inspired by Chapelle de Saint-Pierre, a chapel in France that Jean Cocteau restored in the 1950’s. The chapel is full of illustrations similar to the dress that Cocteau says was inspired by the Divine. Read more about the chapel here.
Cotton Poplin has got to be one of my new favourite fabrics. I think it started with my poplin dress from Cos in the summer when I was pregnant. I love the breathability of cotton, how low maintenance it is (no ironing!), and even though I didn’t need it at the time, I love the volume it creates. Since then I’ve collected numerous poplin cotton dress pieces and am now wearing the thick fabric into fall layered with tights and sweaters.
I love the Nadine dress paired with white boots to create a monochrome look and add length to my short frame. My round bag complements the overall roundness of this silhouette.
