These are our last photos as a family of four. I’ve mentioned it here and there but the sweet little boy I’m about to have is a surprise (the best kind right?) and we are so excited to have him join our family. I never thought we would have a third kid never mind a boy so this is going to be fun (…and different but fun)! Everyday my sweet girls ask when he will arrive and have come to the practice of yelling, “Baby brother come out! It’s summer” into what used to be my belly button because they cannot wait! We talk about all the things we get to do like hold him, kiss him, give him a soother, and my daughter Poppy has taken it upon herself to “play baby”, crying all too realistically from another room while Lux, as the natural oldest child, tells me what’s wrong with “baby” at that moment instructing me to give her a snuggle, a bottle, or a stuffed animal.
Reflecting on when we had each girl, Lux was a natural addition to Wes and me. Having your first child is definitely an adjustment but Lux has always suited her name (light) and has brightened our lives since day one. She is so much like both Wes and me that we have never had a question of why God gave her to us. She’s funny, witty, and likes to know how things work (like dad) and she enjoys the beauty in life and can be overwhelmed with her own emotions (like me). Lux has always been an easy child, and when we decided we only wanted two kids, we got pregnant with Poppy soon after (the girls are 17 months apart). Much to my delight our second baby would be a girl! I have sisters with one being a similar age gap so this felt perfect.
Poppy has been a firecracker from day one and has definitely helped Wes and I grow as parents and people. It’s taken us a while to understand her but what we now know is that she’s a sweet, passionate, smart, and determined human being. Our tough toddler is going to grow up to be an amazing adult and we are so excited to sit front row for her growth.
The girls are different but complement each other well. I’m so excited for them to grow as friends and develop their own special relationship. What a wonderful thing to witness!
As for our new baby boy we are so excited for our lives to change again. We can’t wait to meet him and see what God has in store for him and for us as a family. See you soon baby <3
