My skin has never been better… in my 30s! I started taking it seriously when I had young babies who didn’t sleep through the night and I could see the lack of sleep taking a toll on my skin. As I mentioned in a previous beauty post, I used to be a dove soap and cetaphil girl and that just wasn’t working for me anymore. Below I have my favourite combination of skincare that have:
My skin type is normal to combination. It can feel dry without the proper moisturizer or look oily by the end of the day. I don’t consider my skin sensitive.
I’m not a fan of cleansing cloths. I’ve tried so many and haven’t found anything that takes off my makeup without rubbing my skin red but there’s a place for a quick clean. I run everyday in the morning (so without makeup on) and I use these immediately after my run to prevent sweat-related breakouts. I also use them on days that I don’t wear makeup at all so I can clean my skin quickly before bed.
If it’s not broke don’t fix it! I mentioned this product in my last post and I am still loving it! I prefer to wash my skin, (picture those neutrogena ads where the girls would splash water on their face) so this cleanser is perfect. How do you use an “oil-balm?” It’s similar to soap actually. You rub the cleanser on dry skin for about a minute then add a little water to activate the cleanser (it turns white) and rinse. I always come out with clean skin and all my makeup removed.
Skin exfoliation removes dead/dry skin cells and is usually the first and arguably one of the most important steps in a skincare routine. The removal of the dead/dry skin cells or layer of dermis, allows the skin to breathe and removes a barrier allowing the remainder of your skincare products to work. This exfoliator was suggested to me by my sister and I am loving it! A word to the sensitive- when I purchased this exfoliator the salesperson said she had a reaction to it and she has sensitive skin.
An affordable drugstore product! Yaay! This is an product that after using it for the first few times I saw a huge difference in my skin. According to their website, this toner “gently accelerates cell renewal to reveal a brighter, glowing complexion” which is completely true. You’ll also see the many, many, amazing reviews for it on their site. A word of caution: Glycolic acid is relatively new in the skincare world so their hasn’t been a lot of studies on it’s effect on nursing moms. I still nurse my daughter once a day so I only use this toner once a week. Find Pixi by Petra at your local Shoppers Drug Mart.
It’s Pixi again! You can see on their website here that they have many well reviewed oils and I am loving the Rose Oil Blend. I’m officially hooked on oils for my face and even though I prefer the texture/experience of my previous Indie Lee version, this Pixi oil is the game-changing product that has cleared up my skin dramatically. I have very few breakouts now. If you check out their website you’ll see their Overnight Glow Serum is their highest rated oil but again has glycolic acid. I do plan to try it when I’m done nursing.
Another, “if it’s not broke” product! This is still a favourite and I mainly use this moisturizer under my makeup to give my skin more of a glow on those days I need it. It comes in three shades: Sun glow, Nude glow, and Pearl glow. I use Sun glow to add a bit of a bronzing effect. I only wish it had SPF so it could be a stand alone product that I walk out the door wearing.
Full disclosure, this moisturizer isn’t my favourite. Saying that, it hasn’t had a negative impact on my skin but I need something that feels a bit more moisturizing. I’m on the hunt for something simple to use during the day and I tried a sample of Tatcha, The Water Cream, and loooooooved it! What an amazing moisturizer! But then I went to purchase a full size and found out quickly that it’s beyond my skincare budget. So on I search for an affordable moisturizer. If you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know!
If you know of any that brighten and prevent wrinkles (and don’t cost a fortune) let me know!
I’m exploring a matte foundation, BarePRO™ Performance Wear Liquid Foundation, versus one of my favourite illuminating ones the It Cosmetics Illuminating CC Cream. I used my It Cosmetics foundation over the summer but I’ve lost my tan this summer so I’m currently waiting my new shade in the mail but I’m excited to compare these two fully, particularly the longevity and how each finish (Matte vs. illuminating) works on my 30-something skin.
