    Dôen’s Fall 2 Collection

A new Dôen release is here! Our favourite brand dropped their Fall 2 clothing collection today and it is stunning! What I love best about Dôen is their fabric and unique vintage-inspired designs. They don’t follow the trends but indulge in the ones that follow their design aesthetic – I’ve gotten some amazing poufy-sleeved items from them. Often they release dresses with design details-yokes, necklines, ruffles- that are from another era and magically, they’re modernized for today.

For Fall we see a lot of supporting pieces for Dôen’s famous vintage-boho dresses. Items like turtlenecks, and long sweaters that are made to layer, along with warm coats and boots to take us into the cold weather months.

As for the pretty vintage details; I love the high necklines surrounded in layers of smocking with pretty embroidery. And my favourite, the most magical fabric with a pattern featuring, what seems like a storybook. accurately deemed, “Prancing Fawn Floral” of which I got two items.

    Pre-Orders & Delays

The majority of the items are pre-order with timelines into December and if you’ve indulged in a pre-order before your item can be delayed. This has been a recurring issue with Dôen but was addressed by their director of production in an instagram story sent out at midnight EST last night. Anne, who traveled to their factories in India 6 times this year, explains how they choose their vendors (women-owned or co-owned), their goals (eliminate the gender gap) and recent issues they’ve faced that have caused the delays. This includes fabric availability and the fact that they’re a small company with small orders so the factory often doesn’t prioritize them. As a former footwear designer at a large company I know and understand these delays and it can be super frustrating for everyone involved. The Fall 2 release has extended pre-order deadlines to accommodate any unforeseen delays.

It’s nice to have these issues addressed and in our age of transparency it’s great to understand how this small brand works and get a peek inside the factories. Thanks for sharing Dôen!

    What I Bought

The first thing added to my cart was the item I’ve been waiting for ever since I spotted, screenshotted, and zoomed in on it on Alex Noiret’s feet in August- the Aurelie boot. And yes I’ve emailed the ever nice Dôen customer service to ask them over and over about the release, fully expecting a restraining order to stop emailing them. Today was the day! These sweet kitten heel boots are based off of their famous ballet flats which I own and love. I think they will be a perfect addition to my dresses and jeans going into the Fall. I’m so so excited to receive these!

Hands-down my favourite clothing pieces are anything made in the “Prancing Fawn Floral” fabric. If I could I would easily buy each piece they made but I settled for the Amoret Top in blue- a favourite from the beginning and the sweet Leda dress in red.

The Amoret top has a smocked neckline with contrast stitching and poufy elastic sleeves which can be worn around your wrist or rolled up changing the look. Dôen describes this as a “go-to for easy everyday statement dressing” which is completely true. This isn’t just another blouse. This top is so exquisite and will be a favourite in my collection.

They had me at “finely-printed corduroy”. When Dôen mentioned the Reina top was corduroy in their stories I had to get a closer look. I took a peek at the sweet prairie blouse in their look book and this blouse wasn’t the thick-waled cord you grew up with as a kid but a lightweight fabric that actually draped. Corduroy is definitely Canadian-weather-approved so I’m excited to see what this fabric is all about.

The Leda dress is purely adorable and holiday ready in red. While the storybook pattern and style of the dress is definitely young, it’s playful and flattering. The bodice is similar to Doen’s summer favourite dress, the Raven with it’s smocked and ruffled panels. The ruffled skirt is the perfect length for me making this a great dress to wear out on date night or play with my kids during the holidays.

Overall I think this collection is magic. The fabrics and patterns are whimsical and the designs are inspired. I can’t wait to wear and love each of these pieces.

If you got something from the collection let me know in the comments below or on instagram!
