SEPTEMBER! It is officially fall which is my favourite season. I’m doing a series on fall trends starting with my favourite one: velvet. Every fall we see this fabric resurface and as a cozy one it is welcome into my closet and home. I’ve picked some fun and beautiful velvet items below along with some tips on how to style them if you haven’t tried this trend before.

    From top left:

    Velvet Cami

A camisole is a must-have for every wardrobe so why not try one in velvet? Pair this navy one with the season’s must-have checked blazer for extra trend points.

    Moon & Star velvet shoes

Let these shoes shine by pairing them with jeans and a simple sweater. How gorgeous are these??

    Cushions

The mustard version of these are officially on my list. Though the burgundy ones are gorgeous too… how is a girl to choose?

    Swing dress with embroidery

I have no words for how perfectly pretty and suitable this dress is for the season. I smell a velvet addiction coming on!

    Embroidered velvet handbag

If you’re apprehensive about velvet try it in a small accessory like a pretty handbag! Nothing says “evening” like a velvet embroidered purse. This one will dress up any outfit!

    Red velvet Mules

The shoe of the season in the colour of the season! I LOVE my pair of mules which are the perfect mom-shoe, comfy, easy to get off and on, gorgeous, AND hides my non-pedicured feet.

    Velvet wrap blouse

I don’t think I need to tell you how flattering wrap blouses and dresses are. They cinch your waist to make it look teeny-tiny- who wouldn’t want that? Pick up a velvet version for an extra cuddly experience.

    Beaded Ankle Boots

I recently read an article about how ankle boots are the best going-out shoe and I totally agree! Switch out a pair of heels for these gorgeous booties.

    Style tips for the velvet-impaired:

    • Try it in a style that you love. If you wear camisoles under blazers or cardigans try a velvet one! If your favourite shoes are loafers- try it in velvet.
    • Go dark. Try velvet in a dark colour like black, burgundy, dark green, etc. for a more subtle take on this trend.
    • Start with a velvet accessory. You can’t go wrong with velvet bags or shoes which instantly add oomph to an outfit.
    • Trade in your summer bags and sandals for a velvet pair to make the transition into fall smooth.
