I love being a fashion blogger and beauty is something that I really enjoy learning more about. 18 Months ago my skin routine was washing my face with Dove soap, and moisturizing with Cetaphil. My makeup routine was BB Cream with Spf, a thick layer of CoverGirl powder, Great Lash Mascara by Maybelline, and the odd eyeshadow. I have a three year old and a 19 month old so makeup was largely ignored for two years but as I’ve gotten older and because I’m not sleeping, my skin needed a bit more TLC and my makeup routine needed a freshen up.
After testing and trying lots of products over the past year, (I have a few more posts about skincare and makeup in my beauty section). I discovered a beauty look that I enjoy which is mainly a fresh, dewy, clean look with an emphasis on eyebrows (still the toughest to achieve with my over-plucked millenial brows). I ordered a bunch of Glossier products online to Canada and loved every one! On our recent trip to New York City I decided to visit the famous showroom and I thought I would bring you all along!
Glossier is a showroom located in Manhattan near Broadway which is a popular shopping destination. It’s near big fashion brands including my favs: Madewell, All Saints, and Oak & Fort and is a 12 minute walk from New York’s only Sézane store. Glossier is located on the top floor or “penthouse” (fancy) of their building. When you enter the building there is a security guard and a glossier attendant who is there to direct you to Glossier, answer any questions, AND give NYC residents their Glossier order! If you have a New York address you have the option to pick-up your order that is waiting for you on a rolling rack in the lobby. After speaking to the attendant she explained that you could probably do this when visiting by providing the hotel address and then choosing the Glossier showroom pickup option when checking out online. Otherwise visiting the showroom was easy and my order came out quickly.
You enter the showroom space into a bright room, lit with daylight or lights that emulate daylight- ideal for makeup application.
They had different stations divided by skincare and makeup and with almost every item on each so there was plenty of product to test. Mirrors were scattered throughout the room, on columns and walls to test the makeup. The attendants were in light pink coveralls so they were easy to identify and they were also helpful and knowledgeable. I came back the second day for a gift and they gave me several suggestions but I went with their most popular lidstar colour (fawn) which they told me Beyoncé debuted at the Grammy’s. What’s good enough for Bey is good enough for me!
Glossier has alcohol that you can spray onto a cotton pad and wipe to disinfect the samples. From there you can apply the makeup directly or use a provided q-tip to apply. Finish by giving the sample a fresh swipe of alcohol.
When you decide on the products that you want find one of the makeup attendants in the coveralls who will place your order quickly using a mobile device- they also take payment. Glossier is cashless so bring your credit or debit card with you. The products are kept in the back and your order is brought out to you while you wait in the showroom- there are benches where you can wait for your order. I went to Glossier twice and I waited under two minutes both times for my order. The attendants come out with your order in a pretty pink bag and a postcard with your name on it.
Before coming to the showroom I ordered the duo Cloud Paint cream blush in Dusk and Puff and the Haloscope Highlighter in Moonstone and Boy Brow in brown which you can also buy in a “duo” to save some dollars. I loved everything I got so I was excited to try more at the showroom.
In New York I tested the G generation lipstick in the colour, “Like” which is really nice. I love the natural finish that looks like a stain but isn’t. I also got my hands on the remaining two Cloud Paint colours: Beam & Haze a dark berry and coral peach. My sister also gave me their Stretch Concealer which is really lovely and light.
I love every.single.cloud.paint.colour. They’re all so good! The deep berry colour, “Haze”, is probably my least used because it’s the darkest but Glossier recently released a great tip where they mix Haze with Dusk (my most used colour) which helps dampen the brightness of Haze until I get a summer tan.
I LOVE the dewy, wet effect of the highlighter and the boy brow is shockingly good. Everyone talks about how great it is and it’s probably Glossier’s most famous product for good reason. You have to try it! Wearing it I have thick but well defined eyebrows.
The Generation G Lipstick is lovely but I need to put it on for a day and see it’s lasting power.
My sister gave me her stretch concealer which is brightening but a little light for me so right now I’m only using it under my eyes on my tired days. I did test this out in the store and I would order the medium colour for all over concealer. I’m going to wait until my favourite Nars Soft Matte Concealer is gone until I get this one though.
Another handy-dandy thing to note is that Glossier has subscriptions that you can sign up for when ordering. You have the option to receive the same product every month, 2 months or 3 months. I would love to do this once I realize how long everything takes me to use. Right now my most used Glossier product is the Cloud Paint in Dusk because I use it as a blush and bronzer so I might get it every few months. I also wonder if this subscription reserves the product for you in the case they sell out!?
