    Maternity Clothing

After having 2 kids and hating every piece of maternity clothing I owned (I refused to wear any of it after I had each girl) I decided that this time beyond the necessary maternity jeans, I’m going to buy clothing that is just baby-bump friendly.

Along with everything else that is happening to your body (emotionally and physically) you’re incredibly limited by what you can wear during pregnancy. I don’t currently feel like myself and it’s made harder by my body rapidly changing. Fashion is a creative outlet for me and starting this blog and my youtube channel have been such a great way to express myself but during pregnancy it’s challenging. There aren’t a lot of affordable and stylish choices when it comes to maternity wear.

    The Plan

Jeans! One of the biggest challenges I will face is finding a new silhouette that is modern. I really love the high-waisted jean trend and that’s not a possibility when pregnant. I don’t have any jeans that fit right now and it’s winter so my goal is to find a couple pairs that are comfortable, and functional. I ordered some from Madewell that I’m excited to try (they sell out quickly) and I asked everyone about their favourite jeans on instagram and a few people like h&m’s maternity jeans. ASOS also seems to be a really popular choice for the mamas-to-be in Europe.

    Shop Maternity Jeans

Along with maternity jeans I have been slowly collecting dresses mostly from Dôen which I plan to live in from spring through to fall. Dôen is a brand out of California that is run by women and therefore very female-minded. It seems like most fashion brands should be that way too but Dôen has a particular intention of dressing women before, during and after pregnancies. They regularly feature pregnant women in their clothing including their amazing Journal section on the site. I have a lot of airy blouses that I’ve loved pre-pregnancy from the brand that will work for spring and then once it gets too hot for pants I will be wearing Dôen dresses along with any others that will work for that time.

    Where to Shop

Dôen can definitely be expensive so I try to find it second-hand which I’ve had some great luck with. Along with my favourite second-hand account on instagram, noihsaf bazaar, I’ve recently discovered the Real Real which is an authenticated luxury consignment website. AND it allows you to make RETURNS! I’m still learning about them but I’ve made two purchases so far (one on sale!) and they have some great incentives for selling your luxury goods through them too. Below you can find some amazing Dôen finds on the Real Real.

    Primrose Dress by Doen**

(currently sold out on their site but they may restock in spring)

** A note about fit. The arms are very tight on this dress. I’m usually a size small in Doen dresses but I wear a medium in the Primrose.
