Sandal Trends I’m Buying this Summer

I’m pregnant this summer so as clothing shopping becomes increasingly difficult I’m turning to some great accessories to fill my fashion cravings. Below I’ve found some amazing, affordable and splurge worthy sandals that are trending for summer. I’ve also featured what I’ve bought and my one splurge- a pair of sandals I’ve been thinking about for a few summers now.

    1 | Minimalist Sandals

The minimalist or “barely there” sandal trend is my favourite of the summer. I bought these strappy shoes from Cos and I’m already craving a nude pair for the “naked” look. The thin strapped sandal is one we’ve always enjoyed but the update this year are unique, asymmetrical strap designs and a square toe. By Far has made some gorgeous designs that will make your jeans look elegant. Black seems to be the sandal colour of the season and I’m excited to add a nude pair to my wardrobe.

    From Top:

Dôen Bare Sandal | Once I saw this pair of shoes on the founder of Dôen, I started obsessing over the amazing minimal style. These are the perfect hot weather sandal with barely there straps that will make you feel barefoot all summer long.

Tkees Jo Lace-up Sandal | This sandal is minimal but also adds the classic ankle tie which is a summer favourite. It comes in nude as well.

By Far Thalia | This is the sandal of the summer. It reminds us of the 90s but updated with a great square toe and easy kitten heel. By Far has these sandals in nude and an array of other fun colours including ones that glitter.

Schutz Abeona | If you love Doen’s Bare sandal you’ll like these ones – especially their price tag. These minimal sandals are the most affordable of the bunch. I love that they slide on making them a casual and easy option.

Cos Strappy Flat Sandal | My favourite part of the minimalism trend is the square toe so I was very happy to discover these. I’m also 7 months pregnant so I’m looking for an easy style to put on. These stylish sandals are leather with a elasticated strap making them a breeze to put on.

    2 | Whimsy

I credit motherhood for my move into loving everything whimsical and feminine. I have two daughters and I love to teach them to express themselves through fashion. We are testing a capsule wardrobe for them to keep everything coordinated but their choices inspire me to have fun with my wardrobe as well. Right now I love everything rainbow and whimsical. My footwear splurge of the season are: the Loeffler Randall Starla. As much as I’m loving the minimalism trend the metallic stars that adorn the long thin straps have won my heart. (I show more of this sandal in my recent video here). As the weather gets hotter and our outfits are simplified to stay cool, a pair of whimsical sandals are a great way to stay fashionable.

    From Top:

Loeffler Randall Starla | These popular sandals have haunted me for a couple summers now so I thought I would finally take the plunge while they’re still in stock. This whimsical style is sold out at a lot of major retailers but you can still find it through their namesake website.

Loeffler Randall Birdie | These slides are so fun! I love the subtle polka dot version which I think would pair well with most outfits. The ruffle is fun but the colour way keeps this sandal wearable and sophisticated. It would pair perfectly with a classic black swimsuit.

Madewell Rainbow Slides | I indulged in these sandals as well (can you tell I like this trend). The happy rainbow colours remind me of my kids and will definitely add to my summer outfits when it’s too hot to wear anything but a tank top and shorts. (I bought these during my NYC trip which you can watch here).

    3 | Sporty/Dad/Ugly Sandals

Before you close this browser hear me out! Yes, this trend is referred to as “sporty”, “dad”, or “ugly” so I know they won’t be the most popular choice. I first became interested in the Sporty sandal when Brittany Bathgate styled them with her minimal wardrobe. The sandal helps ground her looks and is a contrasting pairing with feminine items. This brings me to my latest designer obsession: Cecilie Bahsen. Her floaty designs are from my dreams and she pairs them consistently with the chunky sandal. I adore this contrast and enjoy how unexpected it is. I’m a big fan of a minimal version of this trend using leather which makes it sleek: see Vince, and Vagabond below.

    From Top:

Cecilie Bahnsen Sandals | This brand is my major inspiration for this trend. It wasn’t until I saw their runway show that I considered this trend. I absolutely love how they pair the sport sandal with their soft dress designs (I love contrast).

Vagabond Erin Sandals | These are the most affordable sandals of the sport group but still check the minimal and sleek boxes that I’m looking for in this trend. This is the style I purchased and I’m excited to report back!

Vince Parks Sandal | Vince is an elegant brand with thoughtful minimal design so I was excited to see their version of this trend. The white leather straps are the perfect width and the brown outline of the footbed make this style stand out and prevent it from being bland. Also comes in black.

Dr. Marten Voss Sandal | A little bit sporty a little bit nineties. The platform sandal is also a trend so if you’re into both sporty and 90s these sandals are for you.
