If you find yourself in any fashion retail store these days you will notice flower patches, and floral embroidery. This is, in large part, because of the hugely influential Gucci collection designed by Alessandro Michele. Maximalism and whimsy are the theme of his designs as you can see from his Runway looks. Stores like Zara, Topshop, and ASOS have created looks inspired by Gucci and mainly focus on floral embroidered jeans making it a must-have spring and summer item.  Below I have a DIY so you can try the trend affordably and if you’re not into crafting I also have some of my favourite looks from trendy retailers!

Most of the jeans I’ve found have floral patches all along the leg. I’m going to admit it now: I’m not a big fan of my thighs (which is something I’m trying to get over). For now I don’t want to highlight them with flowers but I want to participate in the trend and not spend a lot of money so what can I do? DIY! The beauty of making this yourself is the ability to customize your look! I found iron-on patches on Etsy here (warning if you buy from this seller be prepared for a long wait time). See my video below for how I played with placement on my hips and ultimately decided on my legs.

    The How-to:

    1. Purchase super-cute iron on patches. I got mine here but they took a while so check your local fabric and craft stores.
    2. Find jeans in your wardrobe that need oomph or purchase second-hand jeans. I found mine from value village (originally Old Navy jeans) but check your area for trendy consignment stores that carry denim.
    3. Decide on placement by placing patches on with tape (see video).
    4. Iron-on!
    5. To make sure your design survives the wash sewing the patches on is recommended.

    You’re done!
