We are at the cottage now and it’s been a wonderful first few weeks. We’ve swam, fished, kayaked, and explored the waterways and nearby towns. But Wes and I love to work and have been itching for a routine again. We started back this week before our families visit. I got some new items from Dôen’s pre-fall line and was inspired to write a post to share this great dress and how my maternity leave has been going.

I didn’t know how maternity leave would go because a lot of it depends on the baby and how I would feel. You never know what will happen during delivery and how well the baby does after arriving. I also experienced very low moods which resembled depression while in my first trimester. I luckily got out of with some therapy and support from friends and family. With all of this, I decided that my maternity plan would be to just wing-it and work when I can though I hoped that I would be inspired to create. Luckily I had an uncomplicated birth and things have been pretty smooth ever since (see our birth story here). Our son Kit is almost 6 weeks old and is a sweet little guy. So here I am a few weeks into vacation and inspired to write, blog, and take photos. I’m so thankful for feeling healthy mentally and physically and also the opportunity to slow down and enjoy summer with my new baby.

I received my recent Dôen order with some “early Autumn” pieces and this dress which is from their summer line. (See my full pre-fall Dôen try-on in my highlighted stories on instagram here). This is the Wing dress and while it’s been available for a few months it’s taken me a while to notice it’s beautiful details. I’m head over heels for the doll-like collar and embroidery while the shirt-dress style and fabric make it chic and classic.
