    Leopard Print

When I think of leopard print I think of those semi dusty coats I often see in thrift stores. These coats once belonging to stylish women: mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and no longer passed down but donated so someone can hopefully appreciate them. I’m not sure what season it belongs to but we see a lot of leopard now for Fall which inspired me to bring out my coat I haven’t worn for over a year.

I like to keep a tidy closet full of only things I enjoy wearing. I often donate, consign, or sell what doesn’t work. Even though I haven’t worn this coat for a while, it feels weird to get rid of it. I think leopard print falls into two categories: “classic/vintage” or “weird aunt”. You know, the one you always thought dressed a little strange but grew up to figure out she had great taste and some really cool clothes. With fashion’s ebbs and flows I felt this coat was feeling “weird aunt” to me so I put it away. But with the resurgence of the print in luxurious fabrics like silk (i.e Realisation Par’s naomi skirt that you’re either sick of or in love with) the print seems mormal.

Currently, leopard is everywhere making it more of an everyday print and dare I say a neutral. I’ve been thinking of getting a new bag, something big enough to travel with but more stylish than a diaper bag. Something I want to use. Sézane finally reintroduced their leopard version of the Sam bag which I was all too happy to purchase after seeing my favourite blogger/creator/influencer, Alex Stedman, tote her own version around for years. I’ve owned leopard shoes and always marvelled at how well they’ve gone with my wardrobe.

Maybe the “weird aunt” stigma of leopard is going away and we can enjoy this print as something normal, like floral, that reappears every season. Either that or I’ll have two leopard print pieces to support my weird Aunt label. Tell me what you think of leopard print below! Do you have any favourite pieces?

I recently made a video styling this leopard print coat and 2 other statement coats so check that out on Youtube or at the bottom of this post.
