I did a try-on with this dress earlier in the week (it’s saved in my highlights on instagram) but today I finally tested it out! I remember feeling apprehensive about wearing it this week because it’s so pretty and I wanted to save it. I don’t usually buy dresses to save them so this idea worried me. I was also concerned about how practical it would be for everyday use as a mom of three so I waited until Saturday when Wes was around full time to parent to see how I would feel in it. WELL today this dress and I held two children who were wet from swimming, breastfed, cleaned a watermelon-soaked baby, tidied my house, had a nap, went to a campfire with new friends and raced my kids home. The dress still looks perfect!
One of my favourite parts of this dress is the sleeve. My camera is full of about 30 photos of the sleeve alone. The sleeve has elastic at the shoulder and wrist and I would consider the sleeve to be a bracelet length hitting just above the wrist when the shoulders are worn up. The elastic does an amazing job of keeping the sleeve up which is saying something because almost all straps fall off of my slopey shoulders. The elastic around the wrist is a bit tight when worn above the elbow so I prefer it below at a ¾ length. It stays perfectly at this length and I don’t even notice them. The volume of this sleeve is absolute perfection. It’s romantic and playful and flattering.
The bodice is smocked and Sleeper advertises that it has enough support that you don’t need a bra so I tested this out today and I have to agree. I’m a 34C and I felt completely comfortable.
The rose print and linen fabric are the other highlights of this dress. I love the pink colour and the medium size of the floral print. The size of the roses make it unique but it still feels classic and vintage especially paired with the tiny polka dot background. The linen is lovely. I was confident the linen would be great quality because I own a lounge dress from Sleeper that I got last year. The linen is structured but the surface softens over time making it an ideal nap dress. The structure of the fabric also compliments the sleeve style. The right amount of puff has been accomplished here. I’m excited to wear this dress over and over again!
